Google Releases Gesture Search for Android


Google has just released Gesture Search, a new and experimental feature for phones running the Google Android 2.0 software or above.

Gesture Search is pretty straightforward: you open it up and then draw letters. Draw a M and you’ll get contacts, bookmarks, and apps that start with M. Draw an o and you’ll get results starting with “Mo,” and so on until you find what you’re looking for. Queries can also be erased by drawing a line left to right, while drawing right to left removes the last letter in the current sequence.

In its announcement, GoogleGoogle highlighted how Gesture Search could be a good option for those who may not be able to use voice search and may find that typing to find queries takes too long. While we don’t expect Google to replace AndroidAndroid typing with gestures, it is a nice Google LabsGoogle Labs experiment that we’re sure a lot of people will enjoy using.

Here we go with the phone formerly known as the Calgary, which we're expecting on Verizon anytime now. (Yes, that's a Droid in the picture above. We're told that's just a placeholder.) Samsung Galaxy Tab revealed

If only there were more tablets in the world, you know? Samsung has heard the call, and truth be told they might have a nice crack at creating something desirable. The 7-inch Galaxy Tab (previously referred to as the S-Pad ), runs Android with Samsung's TouchWiz UI on top (similar to the Galaxy S sitting next to it). According to the Tweets by Samsung Blog South Africa -- an odd place indeed to make this sort of unveiling -- it has a "high resolution" screen, and it's supposed to be AMOLED if an earlier leak on the "S-Pad" is to be believed. That S-Pad info also mentioned a Samsung Apps store, which would make sense because as far as we know Google isn't letting "official" Android Market-equipped, Google-blessed tablets out of the gate just yet. Samsung Galaxy S Pro With Keyboard Rumored

There are touchscreen only fans and hardware keyboard fans and some folks are adamant about having it one way or another. That’s why when an amazing mobile phone like the Motorola Droid – or in this case the Samsung Galaxy S – are announced, one knee-jerk reaction is to wonder what the phone would be like if they offered an alternate version. We’re all familiar with the practice of adding a slideout QWERTY and slapping a “Pro” on to the end of the name, and that is exactly what HDBlog.it are suggesting will happen with the Samsung Galaxy S. The above picture is only a mock-up and is NOT real. But, rumor has it a phone that looks very similar to the Galaxy S will add the keyboard and start selling in late summer, after the original S has been on the market a couple months.
